Holo Taco Down To Earth Collection

Commissioned for content, post disclosure page

Hi friends! I am so happy to bring you this new Holo Taco drop! If you are feeling the Falloween vibes, this release will make you happy. I squeed when I opened this package up and saw the color story!

I am getting ahead of myself. Ok, so today’s blog post is for the Down To Earth bundle from Holo Taco. We have 7 new polishes total, 6 cremes and 1 multichrome flakie topper.

This collection is available right now on the Holo Taco website. These are NOT limited edition so they should be around for a while!

Holo Taco is a US based nail polish brand. Their polishes are in 12ml bottles, 10 free, cruelty-free, and vegan.

Brick Wall

Description: a warm brick red creme

Brick Wall applied SO buttery smooth! It had the quintessential Holo Taco creme formula that is slightly on the thicker side but still easy to work with and self levels perfectly. The brand’s color description was spot on.

It was not quite a one coater but it had very even coverage and good opacity nonetheless. I don’t see anyone needing more than 2 coats and after a few uses this will likely be a one coater.

I feel like I often say this about red cremes BUT as someone who doesn’t gravitate strongly towards them, I thought this looked stunning! Since it is a warmer toned red, I found in natural/warmer lighting my hands did have that orangey/reddish look to them that I always gripe about.

My photos show Brick Wall in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. This is a very pigmented color so if reds tend to stain you, I would recommend doubling up on your base coat. I didn’t personally experience any staining with this one.

I had a feeling that someone would be curious about how Brick Wall compares to some of Holo Taco’s other red cremes. I pulled out Hot Take (Fire & Ice Bundle) and Left On Red (Work/Life Balance Collection).

Lowkey Blushing

Description: a warm blush pink polish

Lowkey Blushing is the kind of color that I think of when I think “office-appropriate fall neutral”. Which is the exact opposite on color sthat I personally like.

Both the formula and application were great however this is a little bit streaky. The streakiness isn’t terribly surprisng, I tend to find colors like this to be streaky. Even with the streaks, it does self level nicely.

Due to the streaks, this a 2-3 coater depending on your personal preference. I found I had some dark spots on my nails in 2 coats. I initially thought that only my middle nail had the dark spots but looking at my footage, all of the nails have them. Well with the exception of my midlde nail since that’s the only nail I added a third coat to.

My photos show Lowkey Blushing in 2 coats (middle nail is in 3 coats) plus glossy top coat. This seems to dry down slightly darker than it applies.

I couldn’t really find any cremes in my Holo Taco drawers that were particularly similar to this one. I pulled out Pinky Swear Holo Taco Pastel & Don’t Tell) but they’re not really similar.

Modest Moss

Description: a dark mossy green creme

Modest Moss while I am not the biggest fan of darker greens, I feel like I am slowly starting to appreciate them more. This one has a slight mutedness to it.

This had amazing coverage! Not quite a one coater but very very close. Probably with thicker coats it is a one coater but it likely will be a solid one coater once it’s used a few times. This had the same thicker formula and application as the rest of the release.

My photos show Modest Moss in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. One more time, this is a very pigmented polish so make sure to wear base coat!

I already know what you are thinking, this is a dupe for Mostera (Holo Taco x Julien Collab) and you would be WRONG. While they are very similar, they aren’t exactly the same! If you have one you probably don’t need the other though.

Nightshade

Description: Aubergine-eggplant purple creme

Nightshade is a dusty eggplant kinda color. It has a couple of drops of grey in it that push it from being ok to OK! Although I am also a sucker of greyed out anything so I might be biased.

For the fourth time, the formula was that same kinda on the thicker side but a buttery smooth application that self levels nicely. Coverage was very even but you do need two coats to reach full opacity.

My photos show Nightshade in 2 coats plus glossy top coat. One more time, wear base coat as this is very pigmented!

Not Pressed

Description: a warm olive polish

Not Pressed is the 70s prugly green of my dreams! Oh, how I love shades of green like this! This is a more yellow toned green than say a pea soup green. This is that fun shade of green that I my husband refers to as Calf Scour green. Farmer humor, don’t look it up.

The base was a little bit on the thicker side and I noticed that it self leveled slightly slower than some of the other colors in this release. I usually find that to be typical of greens like this.

This will be a 2-3 coater depending on application style and personal preference. I found I had some dark spots in 2 coats so I opted for a third coat to reach even opacity.

My photos show Not Pressed in 3 coats plus glossy top coat.

Not Pressed is one of the more unique colors to the Holo Taco lineup. It’s not really similar to any of their previous releases. For this swatch I pulled out Matcha Maker (Holo Taco Tea Cremes) and Here For The Payday (Work/Life Balance Collection).

Stay Grounded

Description: Warm medium tawny brown

Stay Grounded I am so happy that Holo Taco is FINALLY releasing more brown colors. On top of releasing more brown colors, I love that this one is borderline in prugly territory!

This has the wonderful Holo Taco creme formula so it is a little bit on the thicker side, self levels like a dream and just shy of being a one coater. Like some of the other cremes, it does seem to dry down a little bit darker than it applies.

My photos show Stay Grounded n 2 coats plus glossy top coat. You will want top coat for a glossy finish as it does dry down a little dull.

If you are wondering how similar this color is to Magical Moustache (Holo Taco x Julien Collab)from the Julien collab, it’s not very similar. It’s lighting the MM but darker than See Y’all Later Chai (Holo Taco Tea Cremes)

Fallen Flakie Taco

Description: a gilded multichrome foil flake topper in a clear base. Flakes shift between metallic copper, green, and magenta

Fallen Flakie Taco is basically fall leaves crunched up into a bottle. You get all of the colors of Autumn leaves, browns, reds, oranges, yellows and green at extreme angles.

The flakies range in small to medium in size. They do not dry down textured like a glitter but you will want top coat to seal everything in. Removal will be very easy but messy.

Since this is in a clear base, you can put this over pretty much any color. You won’t be able to reach full opacity with it but if you sponge it on, you will be able to reach full coverage with it that way.

My photos show Fallen Flakie Taco in one coat over black (Night Owl Lacquer Ya Basic Black), Modest Moss and Stay Grounded. My ring finger shows the polish in 2 coats on its own.

Final Thoughts

If you couldn’t tell, this release made my Falloween loving heart very happy. I love the color story and I really love the addition of some kinda prugly shades to the Holo Taco lineup!

I was really surprised that Holo Taco released so many warm toned colors. I feel like they usually go for cooler tones so I am happy that they went with classic warm tones for Fall.

My top picks are going to be Not Pressed and Stay Grounded.
