Holo Taco 4th anniversary swatch collage

Sponsored Content, post disclosure page

Hi friends! I am so excited to share this release with you all!! Today’s blog post is for the new 4th anniversary Retro collection by Holo Taco. Holo Taco is giving us the full 90s kid/Lisa Frank experience, which is right up my alley!

This collection is limited edition and is available right now on the Holo Taco website. Thank you very much to Holo Taco for sponsoring my video for this release!

Live Swatch Video

Holo Taco is a US based nail polish brand. Their polishes are in 12ml bottles, 10 free, cruelty-free, and vegan.

Life In Plastic

Description: a bright pink jelly polish with scattered holographic sparkle

Life In Plastic is the perfect shade of neon PANK. This polish made my heart so freaking happy! The formula on this one was really nice, slightly on the thicker side so it stays where you put it and doesn’t flood.

I was pleasantly surprised that for a jelly base, Life In Plastic built up really nicely for me. Coverage was even and if you don’t mind a little sheerness it looked cute in two coats.

The micro glitters in this polish are tiny so they do not dry down textured. One coat of the Holo Taco Glossy Taco smoothed everything out nicely for me.

My photos show Life In Plastic in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. This polish dries down dull so you will need top coat for a glossy finish. Removal won’t be too bad but I recommend the soak off method nonetheless.

Box Office Bomb

Description: a bright orange jelly polish with scattered holographic sparkle

Box Office Bomb as someone who doesn’t generally go crazy over orange nail polish, I LOVED how juicy/squishy this one looked! It is exactly as described, it’s bright, it’s orange and it is purdy.

The formula and application were exactly the same as Life In Plastic. It’s a jelly so you do need to build it up. I found it to be more opaque than some of the other polishes in this release, but you still need to build it up.

My photos show Box Office Bomb in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. This also dries down dull. Removal won’t be too bad but I would still recommend the soak off method.

Hi-Def

Description: a bright yellow jelly polish with scattered holographic sparkle

Hi-Def made my heart so freaking happy! I love BRIGHT neon yellows so freaking much! This leans just slightly and I mean slightly in the greenish yellow highlighter color. It’s not *exactly* the shade of a classic highlighter yellow but it’s close.

This was the sheerest polish in the release. It was also the only one that I found that I needed three coats to have even coverage. Yellows tend to be streaky so that wasn’t terribly surprising.

With the exception of being a little streaky at first, the formula and application were identical to the other polishes in the release. The base was a little bit on the thicker side but very easy to work with.

My photos show Hi-Def in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Like the others, you will need top coat for a glossy finish and removal will be pretty messy if you opt to scrub it off.

Be Kind Rewind

Description: a bright blue jelly polish with scattered holographic sparkle

Be Kind Rewind I love the VHS rental shout out of the name of this one!

On my skin tone, the blue base leans just slightly toward the turquoise end of the color spectrum. If your skin tone is more cool toned, I have a feeling it will lean bluer on you.

This color just screams summer to me. I know I have been harping about being over summer but still, this is a beauty. Formula and application were fantastic with this one, just like the other polishes in this release.

My photos show Be Kind Rewind in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Once again, you will want top coat for a glossy finish and removal will be pretty messy but not overly difficult.

Anti-Hero

Description: a bright purple jelly polish with scattered holographic sparkle

Anti-Hero as someone who can’t stop buying purple jelly polishes, Anti-Hero had my heart right out of the box. I was surprised that this seemed to be a more warm toned purple as I find Holo Taco often does cool toned shades more.

And for the final time, this is a jelly polish so you do need to build it up to reach opacity. Even in 3 coats there will still be some VNL.

My photos show Anti-Hero in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Anti-Hero dries down pretty dull so you will need top coat for a glossy finish. Removal won’t be overly difficult but I would still recommend the soak off method.

I was given 5 polishes so of course I had to do a skittle mani!

Final Thoughts

As someone who absolutely LOVES neon colors, it makes me really happy that Holo Taco is giving us some brights! I checked these with a blacklight flashlight for my video to see if there were any neon pigment in them. Life In Plastic, Hi Def and Box Office Bomb glowed very strongly under blacklight.

I was really surprised that the holographic glitter in these does not dry down textured. They sourced the tiniest of micro glitters for these! I can’t think of any critiques or complaints, outside of maybe there not being a green for a true rainbow but it’s not that serious.

I loved this release to pieces so I won’t be picking out a favorite shade. Sorry not sorry!
