Heather’s Hues October 2022 Duo

[Press Samples]

Hello my friends! Fall is definitely here in Connecticut it full swing. Yesterday Wayne and I cleared out the last of the tomatoes and peppers from our garden as last night was the first frost of the year. I spent a few hours last night making pasta sauce to freeze and tomorrow I will be canning the rest of the tomatoes.

When I wanted summer to be over, I didn’t mean that I wanted to turn on the heater. It’s COLD. I have already busted out my desk foot warmer to try to keep my feet warm while I am here in the nail room. So that was my mini update on what’s going on over here.

This blog post is all about the October duo by Heather’s Hues! For October, the theme is Creepy! You do not need to be a member of the Heather’s Hues Facebook group to purchase these polishes but you will need to be a member to submit photos and vote!

As always, links and sale details can be found at the end of the post.

Live Swatches

Heather’s Hues is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are in 15ml bottles, 5 free, cruelty free and vegan friendly.

Orb Weaver

Description: a bright blue filled with a blue to violet magnetic pigment, silver holo reflective glitters, and blue-violet multichrome flakes

Orb Weaver had a beautiful formula. This polish starts off fairly sheer but it builds up nicely to reach full opacity. I really love the base color on this polish, paired with the color shifty magnetic effect it is really pretty on the nail!

It was raining the day I was swatching this polish so my outdoor shots don’t do this one justice. This polish is very reflective, surpringly so since the reflective glitters do not give this polish all that much texture. I used 1 thick coat of my top coat and that smoothed this out really nicely. I had this polish on few a days and I didn’t notice the polish feeling textured or gritty.

The magnetic pigment didn’t give me sharp/crisp lines but it did magnetize very easily. As I mentioned, I had this polish on few several days and didn’t find that the effect lessened or dispersed from how it looked in my photos.

My photos show Orb Weaver in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. I thought for sure this was going to be a stainer but I didn’t experience any staining with it. Removal won’t be too difficult, I soaked it off with no issues.

Bonus shot of this polish that I took with my new iPhone 14 Pro Max. I feel like despite this being taken with artificial lighting, it does showcase the real life level of reflects really well. Also the camera on this phone is really amazing.

Skelly Crelly

Skelly Crelly had a beautiful crelly formula. The base felt just slightly on the thicker side but not at all overly so or difficult to work with. This polish has a lot of glitters in it but I didn’t need to hold the bottle upside down or do any fishing to get great coverage.

Description: a pale teal crelly filled with a mix of metallic and holo glitters in pink, orange, yellow, and teal as well as violet-pink-gold multichrome flakes

Skelly Crelly had a fantastic jelly formula. I was pretty surprised when I read the description and saw that it’s supposed to be a pale teal! I would have bet money it was a pale baby blue shade as that’s the color I was seeing in person.

The base for this polish was slightly on the thicker side but not at all difficult to work with. The glitters all spread out very evenly with minimal texture. I opted to go in with a thick coat of glossy top coat to smooth it out and that seemed to work nicely. I didn’t need to do any glitter fishing or hold the bottle upsidedown to get great coverage.

My photos show Skelly Crelly in 3 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats. I LOVED how this one looked with a matte top coat. Renoval will be very difficult if you opt to scrub this polish off.

Final Thoughts

Overall I liked both polishes. I loved the jewel toned base of Orb Weaver and obviously the glitter mix in Skelly Crelly was right up my alley. However, I will say as far as October duos, this one wasn’t my favorite.

I feel like usually Heather’s October duos scream Halloween more and these didn’t give me the spooky/creepy/Halloween-y vibes. I will say though, the colors of these polishes DO 10000% represent the nail inspiration pictures that the Hue-t-pies voted on.
