Heather’s Hues Monthly Duo | May 2021

[Press Samples – Post Disclosure Page]

Happy May y’all! Today I am sharing the newest monthly duo from Heather’s Hues. It is officially the time of year to break solar polishes and I am here for it! Solar polishes and neons are pretty much my favorite thing about late spring/summer releases and the May duo checks off both of those boxes.

The May duo is available now on the Heather’s Hues website. As always, I will have links at the end of this post on where you can purchase these.

Heather’s Hues is a US based indie brand. Their polishes are handmade in 15ml bottles, 5 free, vegan and cruelty-free!

Bougainvillea

Description: a fabulous solar polish that is clear when indoors and turns a beautiful berry when in the sun. It’s kissed with a mix of glitters and shreds in white and berry and finished with a touch of small iridescent blue-violet glitters.

Bougainvillea had a wonderful formula. It felt somewhere between a jelly and a crelly polish. The glitters and flakies spread out very easily. I didn’t need to do anything special for good coverage. The indoor color appears to be a very pale white with a hint of pink to it. Outside, it was a pretty berry pink color.

This had pretty good coverage for a polish that is described as colorless in the warm state. I think shorter nails might be good in 2 coats. I used 3 coats for my photos. This dries down slightly textured. I used 1 coat of top coat to smooth it out completely.

I soaked this off with acetone and didn’t have any issues on removal.

NOTE: If you are new to solar polishes, you need to expose them to UV light in order for it to change colors. For my photos, I used a blacklight UV flashlight (indoors shots only) as well as outside in the sun. Depending on how strong the light source is, will determine how much color change you will see. I swatched this in the late morning on a sunny day. I’ve found that even on cloudy days, you will see some color change but not as drastic as on a cloud free day. Top coat will only affect the color change if your top coat has UV blockers in it.

Cattleya Orchids

Description: a bright orange crelly packed with a mix of matte and metallic glitters and flakes in a variety of oranges and pinks

Cattleya Orchids had a great crelly formula. It applied very nicely and I didn’t have any formula or application issues. This polish is a BRIGHT orange crelly polish. I’d call it a pastel neon type orange, maybe just slightly creamsicle orange like.

The glitters spread out really easily and I didn’t need to do anything special to get them to apply. I also didn’t need to hold the bottle upside down with this polish. I used 3 coats for my photos.

Removal is going to be tricky from all of those glitters so I’d suggest soaking this off. I soaked it off with acetone and had 0 issues. No staining to report.

Side note: For whatever reason, I thought this polish was called “cat eye orchids”. So my filenames are wrong and I had to rerecord my live swatch voice over because I called it Cat Eyed Orchids *sigh*

Final Thoughts

I L-O-V-E-D this duo! I think they were both absolutely fantastic so I won’t be picking a favorite between the two because they’re both great. Solar polishes are some of my favorites and Heather always does them really well. I am VERY happy Heather is releasing more neons this year!
