Hey friends! Today’s blog post is for the newest monthly duo by Heather’s Hues. This is actually the first duo of the year as Heather took a break in January.
Also I just want to give a BIG congratulations to Heather as the Heather’s Hues WiTS lotion won FIRST PLACE in the Indie Swatch Awards for 2021 in the Best Lotion category. Y’all know I love that stuff so I am not surprised at all.
The February duo is available now on the Heather’s Hues website. As always, links end full sale details will be at the end of the post.

Ice Cream Castles
Description: a thermal that’s magenta when cold and a shimmery sheer white when warm. It’s kissed with a teal-blue to violet-pink shimmer and a hint of blue-violet-red iridescent flakes
Ice Cream Castles had a really great formula. It didn’t feel overly thick or thin and I didn’t have any application issues. The thermal aspect started changing on me right away. The flakies all spread out very evenly without giving off any texture.
I found the cold state to be a very purple leaning magneta and the warm state is as described. You will have some VNL in the warm state but it is 100% opaque in the cold state.
My photos show Ice Cream Castles in 3 coats plus top coat. This polish does dry down dull so you will want top coat for a glossy finish. I found to get the most depth of color, this will be a 3 coater. Coverage was even in 2 coats so if you don’t mind the cold state being not quite as deep, it’s passable in 2 coats.
Nothing in here dried textured or will be overly difficult to remove.
Sun & Moon
Description: a thermal polish that is black when cold and light gray when warm. Its filled with gold holo, silver reflective glitters, and a mix of silver moon and silver, gold, and black holo star glitters.
Sun & Moon had a fantastic formula. The star and moon glitters spread out very nicely. I did hold the bottle upside down between coats for my swatch photos. I found they did seem to sink a little bit. I also found that using *slightly* thicker coats will help you get more of those chunky glitters out on the nail.
I found the thermal aspect to be very reactive. It started changing on me right away. Both color states were exactly as described. If you don’t mind the cold state being a dark grey and not black, this will be passable in 2 coats.
Due to the glitter mix in this polish, I would highly recommend pairing it with a glitter smoothing top coat or at least using 2 coats of top coat for a smooth finish. I used the Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber before going in with my quick dry top coat.
My photos show Sun & Moon in 3 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Removal will be messy and on the difficult side if you scrub this one off. I soaked it off with ease and minimal mess.
Final Thoughts
No surprise to anyone, I loved the duo this month! I was so unbelievably excited to see these chunky glitters in a Heather’s Hues polish! Anyone who knows me knows that I freaking LOVE glitter and I love chunky glitters even more! The fact that my favorite brand is releasing my favorite types of glitters is pretty dang exciting.
Obviously, my top pick is going to be Sun & Moon but both polishes were fantastic. Btw, if you are like me and like chunky glitters Heather has a bunch up now on her website (Snow Storm and Christmas Balls). I snagged those a few months ago and have been wearing them on my dominant hand.

A note on thermal/solar polishes…
I want to note that thermal and solar polishes do have a shelf life on how long they will change colors. Generally, they are guaranteed to change colors for at least 6. My oldest thermal that still transitions is from 2018.
To get the most out of a thermal (all nail polish really) you’ll want to store them in a cool, dark place. I store my thermals with my other nail polish in the Ikea helmers. Once a thermal no longer changes color (aka dies), you can still wear them! The thermals that I own that have died, all stayed in the warm state but it’s not guaranteed to stay in the warm.
