Hello friends! Getting this post together made me want to SCREAM. Which I suppose is fitting for the theme but jeez Louise.
Every month or two (or three) I go back and delete footage from my SD card. I decided since I was clearing off hard drive space that I should also clear off SD card space. So I manually went through my SD card like I always do and deleted files for things that had already been posted. Either I misremembered what I have posted (which is possible) or I clicked too many times and deleted the past week-ish worth of swatches.
At first, I wasn’t panicked because all of my swatch files are also uploaded to a cloud storage which I normally update at the end of the day. Guess who did not in fact add any of the swatches they did to the cloud for the past week-ish? This girl here. So I spent the past 2 days reswatching everything that I have done over the past week or so. Fun times.
All of that is to say, today’s blog post is for the October 2023 Fandom Flakies. The theme this month is Goosebumps and the guest maker is Leesha’s Lacquer. The October box goes on sale Friday October 13 on FandomFlakies.com. As always, more sale details and links can be found at the end of the post.
Fandom Flakies is a monthly indie collaboration between Bee’s Knees Lacquer, Night Owl Lacquer and Ribbits Stickits. Each month has a guest maker, a new theme and polishes are exclusive to the box.
Bee’s Knees Lacquer – Sentient Potato
Inspiration: It Came From Beneath The Sink,
Description: a burgundy polish with gold to green and blue to purple multichrome flakies.
Sentient Potato straight out of the bat, I absolutely LOVE the name of this polish! This polish has a sheer jelly/crelly like base so you will need to build it up to get opacity. It also dries down sheerer than it initially applies so while it looks opaque in 2-3 coats, there will be hints of VNL even when you build it up.
Formula and application were both pretty great. I am not really a Christmas/winter holiday kind of person but this polish made me think of that season a lot. I didn’t experience any problems with staining upon removal.
As someone who loves all things rainbows, Sentient Potato gives you all of the colors of the rainbow in the flakies and base color. I particularly really liked the gold flakies but that’s not unusual for me. The flakies do not dry down overly textured so one coat of top coat will smooth everything out nicely.
My photos show Sentient Potato in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Removal won’t be overly difficult but it will be very messy.
Night Owl Lacquer – Lawn Gnomes Revenge
Description: a mint green filled with large particle aqua shimmer and fuschia/orange/gold/green shifting multichrome flakes
Lawn Gnomes Revenge had a great but thinner formula. It wasn’t so thin that I would call it watery but it was thinner than I expected. You will want to work in thin coats with this one to make sure you don’t make a giant mess.
On the first coat, I didn’t think much of this one however I am not a mint green kind of person. On the second coat with the flakies building up, I started seeing how pretty it actually was. Coverage wasn’t quite even enough for me in two coats so I opted to add a third. Adding the third coat really makes that shimmer sparkle!
The flakies all spread out very evenly and easily. I had one flakie on my thumb that didn’t lay completely flat but the rest of my nails didn’t have that issue. Top coat smoothed out that one wayward flakie.
My photos show Lawn Gnomes Revenge in 3 coats plus glossy top coat. Removal won’t be overly difficult but the flakies will make a big enough mess that I would recommend the soak off method.
The entire time I was swatching this polish I had kept thinking that it was reminding me of something. After scrolling back through my photo photo archive I finally figured out what it is the BKL polish Beach Off from the July 2023 Fandom Flakies. The two aren’t dupes, the BKL polish has a second type of flakies but lacks shimmer as well as having a sheerer base that is slightly lighter in color.
Leesha’s Lacquers – Where the Wolf Prowl
Description: a neon green jelly with purple/blue shifting flakies and purple/green/gold shifting flakies
Where the Wolf Prowl as someone who loves neon slime greens, I knew this polish was going to make me happy just by looking at it in the bottle. Much like the other polishes in the release, it has a jelly base so you will need to build this one up to get opacity.
Coverage is pretty even so if you don’t mind not quite getting the same depth of color that you see in the bottle, this is passable in two coats. The base for this polish is on the thicker side so I would recommend working in thinner coats so as to not make a giant mess for yourself.
Because this is a neon, it is a lot brighter in person than my photos show. It is BRIGHT AF neon green.
My photos show Where the Wolf Prowl in 3 coats plus glossy top coat top coat. Removal again won’t be overly difficult but I would still recommend the soak off method.

Ribbits Stickits
Scent Description: Monster Blood – tart, green apples with strawberry top notes followed by citrus and jasmine with vanilla, raspberry, and plum bottom notes
For my base with waterslide decals, I use Sweet & Sour Lacquer’s Mermaid Melody (use code SweetNicole10 to save 10%) with Holo Taco’s new crackle topper Cracked Taco Shell on top. To make the decals pop over the black, I used white acrylic paint.
