Happy Saturday folks! It’s amazing that after 3 years of blogging, I am still undecided on how to start a blog post. This weekend is going to be super hectic while I try to get my ish together to go to the Expo next weekend. I still haven’t decided what I am wearing or even what I will have on my nails! I am not used to traveling so I am feeling pretty anxious about the whole thing.
Anyway, today’s blog post is for the July 2023 Fandom Flakies box. For July the theme is Barbie and the guest maker is Painted Polish. I do believe this is the first time that I am featuring that brand on the blog.
The July Fandom Flakies box goes on sale July 14th on FandomFlakies.com for a week long pre-order. As always, more sale details can be found at the end of the.

Fandom Flakies is a monthly indie collaboration between Bee’s Knees Lacquer, Night Owl Lacquer and Ribbits Stickits. Each month has a guest maker, a new theme and polishes are exclusive to the box.
Bee’s Knees Lacquer – Beach Off
Description: an aqua crelly with pink to blue iridescent flakes and a scattering of pink/gold/green UCC flakes
Beach Off is one of those polishes that I feel skirts the line between being a jelly and a crelly. Built up, it looks like a crelly but on that first coat? It was incredibly sheer.
The formula and application were both fantastic, the base was just slightly on the thinner side. I love it when BKL does something different from their usual style of sheer super color shifty shimmers so this one was a hit for me. None of the flakies in here dry down textured so you will only need one coat of top coat to smooth everything out.
My photos show Beach Off in 3 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats. I did also use a thicker third coat to add a little bit more opacity for the final coat. If you go in for very thin coats, this will look sheerer. Removal will be fairly easy but also messy.

Night Owl Lacquer – Did You Bring Your Rollerblades?
Description: a bright yellow filled with iridescent red/orange/green/yellow flakes and fuschia holographic shreds
Did You Bring Your Rollerblades? oh how I love a yellow base! This polish made me so happy, it’s bright, it’s fun and it is perfect. I expected it to be a sheer jelly base but it leans more towards being a crelly.
It was also just a little bit on the thicker side but I found the application very easy and the formula was great. I had a hard time trying to decide if the shreds in here were flakies or glitter shreds. Prior to getting the official description, I thought they were red micro flakies. Since they are so small, they do not dry as textured as the typical glitter shred.
This will be a 2-3 coater depending on your personal preference. I found coverage to be amazing. (and very even) in 2 coats but I did have a little bit of VNL. I opted to add a third coat to make it 100% opaque.
My photos show Did You Bring Your Rollerblades? in 3 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats. I wouldn’t recommend scrubbing this one off, use the soak off method for the easiest removal experience.

Painted Polish – Let’s Go Party!
Description: a Barbie pink crelly with blue metallic flakies
Let’s Go Party! had a fantastic formula. Painted Polish always does an amazing job with their crellies. The flakies in here are super tiny, at first I thought they were micro glitters.
This was a lot more opaque than I expected it to be. It manages to be sheer enough that you can see the layers of flakies as you add coats but opaque enough that it was 100% opaque in 2 coats!
This polish is the sole reason why I have matte shots for all of the polishes in this release. My heart just KNEW that I had to see what this one looked like with a matte top coat and it is beautiful *chefs kiss*.
My photos show Let’s Go Party in 2 coats plus both glossy and matte top coats. Removal will be pretty easy but again, very messy.

Ribbit Stickits
Life in Plastic, It’s Fantastic scent description: Blend of berries, vanilla, toasted coconut, and a touch of Hawaiian punch
Once again, my nose has let me down. When I sniffed this prior to getting the official description, I felt confident that this was scented as either sunblock or cocoa butter. I could smell some hints of something fruity, which I thought was maybe a banana fragrance?
Reading the official description, I think what I was picking up as cocoa butter is actually the toasted coconuts. But yeah, the scent is nice but I didn’t pick up any of the notes.

Final Thoughts
I just loved how this month’s box was filled with crellies! I don’t generally pick favorites from the Fandom Flakies box which I am thankful for as I loved these polishes and decals this month.
