Hi friends! Today’s blog post is for the newest release from Bee’s Knees Lacquer! This collection was inspired by the House of Sky and Breath, which is the second book in the Crescent City series by Sarah J Mass.

The HOSAB collection is a 12 piece release that features all multichrome bases with 6 of the polishes having colored reflective glitters. Along with the main collection, there will also be 2 different mystery bag listings. As with my previous blog posts, I will put my swatches for the mystery polishes all the way at the end of the post to keep spoilers to a minimum.

This collection will be available starting on April 28th on the Bee’s Knees Lacquer website as well as their international stockist pages. I will have all of the sale information listed after the main photos.

NOTE: For all of the reflective polishes, my natural light shots were taken with ONLY the sun for lighting. No flash.

A Magical Leech

Description: a large particle emerald green to blue to purple to pink multichrome. $13

A Magical Leech had a mind-blowingly amazing formula. Ok really I was just blown away by the color shifts but the formula was really great! This is an EXTREMELY color shifty multichrome. In person, I was seeing a green, blue, purple, pink to orange color shift. Practically a full rainbow of color on the nail.

My photos show A Magical Leech in 3 coats plus top coat. This will be a 2-3 coater depending on your nail length and personal preference. I also swatched this one in 1 coat over a black creme (Heather’s Hues Shadow). Over black this is *slightly* darker but looks pretty much the same as in 2-3 coats on its own.

Approachable Asshole

Description: a large particle gold multichrome that shifts to bright green and blue
Price: $13

Approachable Asshole had a beautiful formula. The multichrome was very vibrant, it had a strong gold, green to blue color shift. It started out a little sheer but it reached opacity very quickly.

My photos show Approachable Asshole in 3 coats. It was nearly opaque on me in 2 coats but I did have some VNL on the clear part of my nail. I think this will likely be a 2 coater on most people.

I also swatched it in 1 coat over black. Honestly, it looked pretty much the same in 1 coat over black as it does in 2-3 coaters on its own.

Captain Whatever

Description: a large particle orangey copper to gold to green. $13

Captain Whatever had a really great formula. I was shocked at how opaque this one was. If you have shorter nails, it will be a easy 1 coater. Longer nails will likely want to use 2 coats though.

In person, I could see the copper to gold color shift, the green came in at extreme angles and was a bit harder for me to photograph but I could see it.

My photos show Cpatian Whatever in 2 coats plus 1 coat of top coat. Since this one was so opaque, I didn’t see a point in swatching it over black.

Prince of Nothing

Description: a large particle purple to pink to red to gold multichrome
Price: $13

Prince of Nothing had a beautiful formula. Like most of the other multichromes, it started off sheer but reached really nice opacity in 2 coats. The multichrome pigment to my eye shifted from a purple, pink, gold with a green at very extreme angles.

Colorwise, this was one of the more appealing multichromes to me. There’s just something about this color shift that was just *chefs kiss*

My photos show Price Of Nothing in 3 coats plus top coat. This will be a 2-3 coater depending on personal preference. I also swatched it in 1 coat over black. Again, it looked pretty much the same over black as it did on its own.

Rebel Where You Can

Description: a rich, large particle blue to purple to red multichrome
Price: $13

Rebel Where You Can also had a great formula. I found the multichrome shifted in the described colors. The red came in at extreme angles. Sorry for the broke record but like the other multichromes, it started out kinda sheer but reached opacity quickly.

My photos show Rebel Where You Can in 3 coats. I had a *tiny* bit of VNL on the clear part of my nail so I used 3 coats. I think it will be a 2 coater on most people. For personal wear, I would wear this in 2 coats.

We’ll Carve Our Own Paths

Description: a large particle pink to gold to green multichrome. $13

We’ll Carve Our Own Paths is another polish that just did it for me color wise. The colors shifts in here were just amazing! Formula and application were top notch.

In person, I could see the colors as described and they were VERY vibrant. They had an almost tropical vibe.

Autumn Queen

Description: a large particle orangey copper to gold to green with aqua light reflective glitter
Price: $13.50

Autumn Queen is the reflective version to Captain Whatever. Like that polish, it was surprisingly opaque on the first coat. Depending on application, I can see this being a 1 coater on short nails.

Due to the reflective glitters, this polish was both on the thicker side as well as textured. I didn’t have any issues with the thickness level of the polish. To get the *smoothest* finish possible you will want to use at least 2 coats of top coat.

I am currently typing this up while wearing the polish and I can easily see the aqua glitters reflecting away. This polish is very reflective!

My photos show Autumn Queen in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Removal will be on the difficult and messy side if you try to scrub this polish off. I used a peel off base coat (Holo Taco’s Peely Base) but soaking this off will also work.

Dusk’s Truth

Description: a rich, large particle blue to purple to red multichrome with bright yellow light reflective glitter
Price: $13.50

Dusk’s Truth is the reflective version to Rebel Where You Can. The reflective glitters do make the base feel a little thick but I found it easy to work with.

I found the reflective glitters to be very sparkly and I could see the yellow reflects in natural lighting as well as under my LED floor lamp.

My photos show Dusk’s Truth in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. As this polish dries textured you will want a glitter smoothing top coat to help smooth it out.

Hello Bryce Quinlan

Description: a large particle purple to pink to red to gold multichrome with emerald light reflective glitter
Price: $13.50

Hello Bryce Quinlan is the light reflective version of Prince Of Nothing. The base was on the thicker side but I didn’t have any application issues. Like the other reflective polishes, it was on the thicker side but I didn’t have any issues working with it.

The reflective glitters were all very sparkly and I could easily see the emerald reflects in both natural lighting as well as under my indoor housing lighting.

My photos show Hello Bryce Quinlan in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Again, a glitter smoothing top coat will give you the smoothest finish possible and removal will be difficult if you try to scrub this one off.

Our Love Spans Across Stars and Worlds

Description: a large particle pink to gold to green multichrome with sapphire light reflective glitter
Price: $13.50

Our Love Spans Across Stars and Worlds is the reflective version of We’ll Carve Our Own Paths. I found it had a great formula. Like the other reflective glitter polishes, it was a little on the thick side but still easy to work with.

The reflective glitters were very sparkly and reflective. In person, I was mainly seeing the silver reflects with hints of blue at extreme angles. I found I was best seeing the blue reflects outside in natural light with the sun behind me.

My photos show Our Love Spans Across Stars and Worlds in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Like the other reflective polishes, this polish dries textured and removal will be difficult if you try to scrub this polish off.

Super Powerful and Special Magic Starborn Princess

Description: a large particle gold multichrome that shifts to bright green and blue with purple light reflective glitter
Price: $13.50

Super Powerful and Special Magic Starborn Princess is the reflective version of Approachable Asshole. It was slightly on the thicker side due to the glitters but (again, sorry) I didn’t have any issues with application.

I found the reflective glitters in here to be very sparkly. Out of all of the reflective glitters, I had the hardest time photographing this one indoors. I don’t *think* there’s any less in here, I just had a harder time getting them to appear for me. Once I got this outside, I could see the reflects a lot easier.

My photos show Super Powerful and Special Magic Starborn Princess in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. Removal will be difficult if you try to scrub this polish off.

Time To Level Up

Description: a large particle emerald green to blue to purple to pink multichrome with ruby red light reflective glitter
Price: $13.50

Time To Level Up is the reflective version of A Magical Leech so it has the same color shifts as that polish. It also was slightly on the thicker side due to the glitters but I didn’t have any issues with application.

I found it was very reflective in person. Indoors, my eyes were mainly picking up the silver reflects but I could see the red reflective glitters at some angles under direct lighting. I found on my front porch with the sun to my back, I could see them really well!

Final Thoughts

I really really (really) loved this collection! In the past, colored reflective glitters have not been my favorite. Don’t get me wrong, I love reflective polishes but the colored ones? Not as much. I found colored reflects were difficult to not only photograph *accurately* but my eyes couldn’t really see the colored reflects in person. I don’t know what BKL did differently with this collection but I found the colored reflects A TON easier to see in person with my naked eye.

The nonreflective polishes were equally gorgeous. So my top picks from this release are going to be Prince of Nothing, We’ll Carve Our Own Paths, A Magical Leech, Our Love Spans Across Stars and Worlds and Super Powerful and Special Magic Starborn Princess.

Sale Information

The House Of Sky And Breath collection will be available starting on April 29th at 7PM Eastern time on the Bee’s Knees Lacquer website. The pre-order window will close May 4th at 11:59PM Eastern. Each polish will be available individually as well as in a set for $150.

On top of the main collection, there will also be 2 different mystery bag options. Each bag will have 2 polishes and there will be a 1 bag type per person limit on the mystery bags. Shimmer Mystery bags will be $24 for 2 shimmer polishes and the Unicorn Pee + Reflective Glitter Mystery bags will be $30 for 2 polishes.

Mystery Polishes

Shimmer Mystery Polishes

Aidas

Description: mid-toned blue with purple to pink shimmer

Aidas had a great formula. This was on the more sheer side so you will want to either build this one up or use it as a topper. In 3 coats, I did still have some obvious VNL so I also swatched it in 1 coat over a black creme (Heather’s Hues Shadow).

The shimmer to my eye had a purple, pink to gold (extreme angles) color shift. It was slightly larger in particle size so you won’t see any brush strokes through it.

My photos show Aidas in 3 coats plus top coat. Removal will obviously be very easy and I didn’t have any issues with staining.

Agent Daybright

Description: a bright, sunny yellow with pink to green shimmer

Agent Daybright had a gorgeous formula. I just LOVED the base color on this polish! Paired with the shimmer it was just beautiful.

The shimmer effect was as described. Like the other shimmer mystery, it was pretty sheer so you will have VNL in 3 coats.

My photos show Agent Daybright in 3 coats plus top coat. It is also sheer enough that you can play around with it as a topper.

I also wanted to show Agen Daybright compared to Your Golden Traitor (Lore Olympus Mystery)

Unicorn Pee + Reflective Glitter Mystery Bags (2 polishes for $30, limit 1 bag per person)

River Queen

Description: a deep turquoise with gold to green sibling UP and light reflective glitters

River Queen had a great formula. The base didn’t feel overly thick and the glitters spread out nicely. It was a little bit more sheer and jelly like than the reflective glitters in the main part of the collection. The sibling UP shimmer was as described.

The light reflective glitters were a light blue color. I could see both a blue and silver reflect depending on lighting. As per usual, the reflective glitters do give the polish a bit of texture so a glitter smoothing top coat will be key to getting a glossy finish.

My photos show River Queen in 2 coats plus 2 coats of top coat. I think I might have been able to go in for a third coat to get some more opacity as this polish wasn’t as thick as I thought it would be. I did have VNL in 2 coats.

Removal will be difficult and messy if you try to scrub this one off.

The Shepherd

Description: a smoky charcoal polish with red to green UP and light reflective glitters

The Shepherd had a similar formula and application to River Queen. It was also a little sheer so you will want to build it up for opacity. The shimmer effect was very strong and I could see the red, gold green color shift.

I feel like this one leans a little bit brownish greyish?

I used 2 coats of The Shepard with 2 coats of top coat for my swatches. I think I could have done a third coat of color for this one as it was still a little sheer in 2 coats.
