Heather’s Hues November Monthly Duo | Swatch & Review

Magical. That’s the word I’m going to use to describe today’s post. Today I am sharing swatches of the November monthly duo by Heather’s Hues! Each month members of the Heather’s Hues Facebook Group are asked to submit and vote on photos for Heather to turn into a monthly duo. The November duo will be available tomorrow, October 31st at 9AM Eastern time. I will have all of the sale information and appropriate links at the end of this post.

If you haven’t heard of this brand before, Heather’s Hues is an indie nail polish brand. Their polishes are handmade in the USA, 5 free, vegan, and cruelty free. Heather’s Hues also has a variety of other handmade items available, including my favorite lotion (WiTS), my swatching cuticle balm, and even wax melts! Heather’s Hues has been featured on my blog and Instagram many many times!

Disclaimer: I was sent these products as PR in exchange for photographs and an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My photos were taken indoors with daylight bulbs, outdoors with natural light plus both matte and glossy top coats. Links and codes with * are affiliate links/codes.

Candied Apples

Description: a deepened teal jelly packed with a mix of lime and teal holo glitters, and a mix of both multichrome and iridescent flakes in pink, purple, gold, orange, and green.

Candied Apples is absolutely beautiful! I was just blown away at how pretty it was. This had a smooth formula and was on the thicker side. It was easy to use and packed to the brim with glitters and flakies. It didn’t require any glitter placement or setting the bottle upside down to get even coverage of the glitters/flakies. I did notice that I had some VNL but there’s so much packed into this polish, they largely distract from it. It dried down surprisingly smooth and I only needed 1 layer of top coat. My photos show Candied Apples in 3 coats. This removed easily with acetone using the soak off method.

I knew I wanted to do some nail art with this polish but I also didn’t want to do anything that took away from how pretty it was. Remember I said magical described this post? What is more magical than a unicorn? A unicorn poop! I used Maniology plate M055 with a mixture of stamping polishes. I’ll have links to everything at the end of the post. To color in the unicorn poop I used one of the most beautiful brown polishes I own, I’m a Black Belt in Gift Wrapping by Heather’s Hues from the December 2019 Hella Handmade Creations.

Frosted Berries

Description: a deep blackened eggplant when cold to boysenberry when warm and has just a touch of fuschia and black holo microglitters and garnet microglitters.

Frosted Berries is a vampy polish lovers DREAM! I personally really loved the cold state. This formula was on the thin side but not watery and didn’t run. The microglitters are subtle but abundant if that makes sense? I’m not quite sure how else to describe them. It won’t give you BOOM in your face glitter payoff like Candied Apples but a softer more subtle sparkle. It was just a touch sheer on me in 2 coats so I did 3 for my photos. I think shorter nails could get away with only 2 coats. Barely any noticeable texture before top coating and none after. This is removed easily with acetone.

My Thoughts

Y’all know I LOVE these monthly duos and always look forward to them. I try not to pick favorites in a duo but, Candied Apples checked all of my boxes and just looking at photos of it still has me drooling! Frosted Berries is gorgeous and the low key sparkle will be perfect for people who don’t like in for your glitters. I don’t post the inspiration photos due to copyright claims but trust me when I say Heather once again did an amazing job turning photos into polishes.

A note on thermals…

I want to note that thermal polishes do have a shelf life (generally at least 6-12 months) on how long they will change colors for. My oldest Heather’s Hues thermal was purchased in 2018 and last I checked (early this summer) it still transitioned. To get the most out of a thermal (all nail polish really) you’ll want to store them in a cool, dark place. I store my thermals with my other nail polish in the Ikea helmers. Once a thermal no longer changes color (aka dies), you can still wear them! The thermals that I own that have died, all stayed in the warm state but it’s not guaranteed to stay in the warm.
